Traveling heirloom portraits

After having my first son in 2015, I began taking biannual portraits of him by the big window in our dining room. A little backdrop and a sweet outfit and we were set. The light softly lit up his baby features and captured the cheeks, dimples, incoming teeth and little sprigs of baby hair . I didn’t know it at the time, but as he would mature and develop he would also outgrow these features I loved and captured. As a photographer, I balance between documenting moments & emotions and details & features. I see my family photography sessions as a time to savor the seasons of family life and focus on the relationship between parent and child. Whereas, with Heirloom Portraits, I aspire to capture the personhood of a single child…. to clearly look into their eyes and see who they were made to be. And as an heirloom, this portrait is not just for you to enjoy, but for them to one day treasure and pass down to their children.

“Heirloom Portraits make themselves at home between antique art and old family photos.

If you’re like me, I know you would agree there is so much inspiration in flipping through old family photos and walking through antique stores full of original artwork and portraits. You might have old family portraits displayed around your house and believe original artwork brings life to a space. I do, too, and feel Heirloom Portraits make themselves at home between artwork and family photos so effortlessly. Not to mention, I can’t think of anything sweeter than art in your home that also captures your little one. My children’s Heirlooms stole my heart and my hope is that you feel the same about yours.

They cost is $250 per family for a 10 minute session and 10+ photo are included in your gallery along with one 4x6 fine art print. Additional children after the first: $55 per child

Heirloom Portrait Events are hosted in several cities in the Spring and Fall, in time for Mother’s Day and Christmas gifts. (A gift for you and a gift for the grandparents, win win!)
They are simple 10 minute sessions per family. After the session, you will receive a gallery of final photos and will be able to choose your favorite for a fine art print. The photos are printed on beautiful hand-aged cotton fine art paper. Additional sizes are available for purchase from the gallery. Digital downloads are included in print orders over $60.

I enjoy traveling with my family and would love to take my small portrait set up all across the globe. If you are interested in having Heirloom Portraits done in your city, simply send me a message!

Frequently asked questions:

What age is best?

Any age you want to document! But around 4-6 months, or when your child is able to hold her head up on her own, is recommended. If she is unable to sit unassisted, that’s fine. You’ll be nearby to help her sit up. I’ve also photographed several newborn heirlooms. This is done with the mom holding the sleeping baby. There’s no age limit, though. I have done heirlooms of teens as well.

What should they wear?

I generally suggest light colored tops. The collar is the only part of the clothes showing, so choose a collar you like best. Anything below the chest will be out of the frame.

What is a fine art print?

The prints offered for heirloom portraits are on aged fine art paper. Fine art paper is 100% cotton and feels similar to watercolor paper. They’re hand-aged to give them a warm tone and nostalgic feel.

Can I purchase digitals?

Yes, they are available for purchase. If you purchase $60 in prints, the digital are included.

Can I purchase antique frames?

I try to collect antique frames throughout the year to share with my clients. My collection will be available to purchase during the event, first come first serve.
There are also many beautiful frames to be found on Etsy and Ebay. Keywords for best results: “Antique gold” “Small oval” “Gesso” “Italian” and “French”
